Marlin .444

I recently took out this beaut of a lever action to compare the Hornady Leverevolution 265gr and some jacketed semi-wadcutters in 300gr. Shot off a sandbag rest using the irons.

The Hornady shot about six inches high at 25yds, on the money at 50yds, and about 8 inches low at 100yds. I was quite baffled at this, and frankly very disappointed in the performance of these loads. At over $30/20rds, this was unacceptable.
300gr SWC @ 100yds
The 300gr rounds were effectively in the center at all distances out to 100yds, and pretty darn accurate to boot. I felt confident enough in the load to take it out for a second opinion the following week. Porky took one right behind the ear (well, first through the ear) and flopped over with approval.

250lb meets 300gr
A great short-range rifle and the perfect load. Kicks a bit more than a 30-30, but not too much, and is quite effective at putting down the gamut of North American game.
